National Level: Nigeria Internet Governance Forum programme

GNC co-founded and commenced the implementation of the Nigeria Internet Governance Initiative in strategic collaboration with Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA)

2012

Learning from the success of the Nigerian Child Online Policy Initiative, the then President of the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Mrs. Mary Uduma, invited GNC to co-facilitate Nigeria's renewed Internet governance process.

2012 2012

Under this strategic collaboration, NIRA and GNC provided and implemented the strategy for building and managing the process from 2012 to 2019 and working with other members of the Local Multi stakeholders Advisory Group of the NIGF.

NIGF is currently a successful and sustainable multi-stakeholders initiative in Nigeria. GNC completed its assignment in 2019.

  • Platform acceptance by government and other institutional partners
  • Annual mobilization of stakeholders for participation in Regional and Global IGF since 2012
  • Provision of recommendations for policy formulation for development at the national, sub-regional and continental levels since 2012
  • Growing online resources for capacity building since 2012

West African (ECOWAS):

GNC contributed severally sending technical resource persons to ECOWAS- West Africa Internet governance, promoting regional Internet governance reform in National and Regional Initiative (NRI).

Africa Union level: African Union (AU) appointed GNC to the AU-Multi-stakeholders Advisory Group, where the President delivered a leading paper on the "Role of Internet Governance in Sustainable Development Goals" in Durban, South Africa 2016.

As a pioneer member of AU IGF MAG, the President of GNC, and a resource person, he delivered a leading paper on Internet Governance for SGDS in Africa.

2017

African Union Internet Governance Forum at Durban, South Africa - GNC served as an AU-IGF member that co-developed an IGF Charter for African Union currently being used. In the West African region, GNC contributed a strategic framework for the reformation of West Africa IGF in 2016 as a member of West Africa IGF MAG and served as a resource for regional cybersecurity policy initiatives and Internet Governance for development.


Global Level:

2017

Through the affiliation of AFICTA, GNC President co-chaired United Nations Cybersecurity Best Practice Forum in Geneva. The President co-led the UN best practices, sessions, and technical expertise forum for more than 65 countries, comprising a panel of CERTs and information security advisors. Becoming the 1st IG advisor from Africa to propose, facilitate and coordinate UN-IGF Main Session on Cybersecurity- Empowering Global Cooperation on Cybersecurity for Sustainable Development & Peace with over 150 countries participation, Geneva, 2017.

2016
